You must have certain base level qualifications, being Australian qualifications under s1282(2)(a)(ii); or ‘equivalent’ qualifications and experience under s1282(2)(a)(iii).
The subjects completed for an Australian qualification must comprise at least a three-year course of study in accountancy and a two-year course of study in commercial law (including company law).
If you hold overseas qualifications, we expect you to hold a minimum three-year full-time undergraduate accounting qualification from a university in a country with comparable accounting standards and practices to Australia; and have completed a supplementary course in Australian accountancy and Australian commercial and company law; and one year of supervised, relevant practical experience in Australia.
If relying on an overseas qualification, you must provide certification about the comparability between your qualification and an Australian undergraduate degree in accounting. This can be obtained from CPA Australia or CAANZ or from Australian Education International - (phone 1300 615 262).
If you do not meet any of the above requirements, you may make a submission to satisfy ASIC that your education background (including relevant transcripts) and relevant experience are equivalent to the minimum requirements as outlined above.
